![]() ![]() I remember my strategy involved exploiting the game's mechanics. I was able to take on entire gangs all by myself just because I had such a strong mastery of the game. In that case, I wouldn't be satisfied unless I got at minimum a 20 kill to 1 death ratio. At some point, interest shifted from Capture the Flag to more of a "death arena" style of scenario/map. I used to be so good at that game -analagous to a GM in starcraft since I was one of the first kids to get access to cable internet (as an upgrade from modem, which was predominant at the time). I remember very heated fire-fights where engineers were scrambling to construct towers, heavy weapons were providing suppression fire, sci-ops were using their physics-defying weapons to be leaveraged against conventional warfare, while infiltrators were sneakily trying to steal flags. Very fast moving but light soldiers who could go invisible when not firing aimed at being sneaky and assassinating targets of opportunity. Hell, even the process of gathering resources was difficult because different teams would vye for resources to support their own engineers. The cool thing is that engineers required resources -minerals- to construct towers and so an effective team would require 3-4 engineers building towers and other infantry venturing far away abroad to gather resources. Had access to high tech "sciencey" weapons including lasers that could bounce off walls and projectiles that could PENETRATE walls.Ĭould construct towers ANYWHERE provided they had requisite resources. Had access to more "heavy" machinery such as many different kinds of rocket and missile launchers, land mines, anti-tank weaponry. Proficient with pistols, machine guns, etc. These resources are not used for purchasing weapons, per se, but rather they act as the natural resources by which engineers (a class, see below) can use to construct towers which were incredibly useful for defending one's base. There are parts of the map where "resources" can be found. ![]() Thus, a good squad leader should try to stay alive and be in strategically relevant locations (i.e., in defense of your own team's flag or outside the vicinity of a rival team's base/flag). Squad leaders in a team have the ability to "summon" (i.e., teleport) team members to their present location. Every time you die, you respawn in a neutral area, and when you want to return to the field of action, you are teleported to a random spot on the map. And you get points for stealing the flag of another team and returning it to your own base. Basically there were many teams playing simultaneously on one very large map. Various scenarios were available (e.g., free-for-all) but at some point, the most popular scenario was Capture the Flag. You could choose between different classes (see table below). Whether they’re interested in playing the wide variety of genres in the Arcade or wanted to give Protoss a shot, patch 2.1 has something for everyone. Now is the best time to get your friends to give StarCraft II a try. This also means that you can try out our new Extension Mod feature as well. Now your friends that don’t own StarCraft II can try out the voracious Zerg, the rough and rugged Terran, or the enigmatic Protoss on any map they choose. However, in patch 2.1 we’re unlocking every single melee map and all three StarCraft II Races. ![]() In the past, if you didn’t own StarCraft II and you wanted to play, you were limited to a small number of maps and could only play as Terran. As with all changes we make, we’ll make sure to monitor this system and make tweaks to it if necessary. If the player does not respond, they will be removed from the lobby and a new host will be chosen. When a player creates a game and then goes to heat up a snack, completely forgetting about their game, what can you do? Well, in Patch 2.1, if a lobby host has been inactive for a period of time, a prompt will appear to confirm that they’re still at their keyboard. Since we’ll have more players in the Arcade, we think this is a good time to resolve an issue that comes up from time to time: AFK lobby hosts. ![]()
